Swiss Banking Act of 1934
The Swiss Banking Act of 1934, the Federal Act on Banks and Savings Banks, was the first federal law regulating Swiss banks, passed after the banking crises of the early 1930s. Its article 47 made the disclosure of client information by bank employees a criminal offence, giving Swiss bank secrecy the force of criminal law. That secrecy was greatly reduced from 2009 under international pressure.
