Swindon
Swindon is a large town in Wiltshire, south-west England. Nearby Wroughton is the probable site of the Battle of Ellendun in 825, when Ecgberht of Wessex defeated Mercia. A small market town until the nineteenth century, Swindon grew rapidly after the Great Western Railway built its main locomotive and carriage works there in the 1840s.
