Tashkent Soviet

1917–1918 · 20th century

The Tashkent Soviet was the council of workers' and soldiers' deputies in Tashkent, dominated by Russian railway workers and soldiers, which seized power in Russian Turkestan in November 1917. It excluded the Muslim majority from government and in February 1918 sent troops that destroyed the rival Kokand Autonomy. It became the core of the Turkestan Soviet Republic.
