Temple Entry Proclamation
The Temple Entry Proclamation was issued on 12 November 1936 by Maharaja Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma of Travancore, ending the ban on entry of so-called lower castes and Dalits into the Hindu temples controlled by the state. Following years of campaigning such as the Vaikom Satyagraha, it was among the first measures of its kind in India and was praised by Gandhi.
