Tennessee
Tennessee is a state in the south-eastern United States, with its capital at Nashville. Settled west of the Appalachians from the 1760s, the region was ceded by North Carolina to the federal government in 1790 and admitted as the sixteenth state in 1796, with John Sevier as its first governor. It was the last state to secede to the Confederacy in 1861, the scene of major Civil War battles, and the first readmitted in 1866.
