Thar Desert
The Thar Desert, or Great Indian Desert, is an arid region of about 200,000 square kilometres in north-western India and south-eastern Pakistan, covering most of western Rajasthan. Sand dunes and scrubland are crossed by old caravan routes, and desert kingdoms such as Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Marwar grew rich from trade across it. Canals have since brought irrigation to its north.
