Tianjin

Also known as Tientsin

Tianjin is a major port city in northern China, about 120 km south-east of Beijing near the Bohai Sea. After the Treaties of Tianjin of 1858 and the Convention of Peking of 1860 it became a treaty port, with concessions held by several foreign powers. Japan occupied it in July 1937 at the start of the Second Sino-Japanese War, and it is now one of China's municipalities under direct central government.
