Tito Venier
Tito Venier was a Venetian noble of Crete who in 1363 led the revolt of the island's Venetian colonists against Venice, sparked by a new tax for the harbour of Candia. The rebels proclaimed the Republic of Saint Titus, named after the island's patron saint, and sought Greek support. Venice crushed the revolt in 1364 and executed its leaders.
