Tokelau
Tokelau is a group of three coral atolls in the South Pacific, north of Samoa, that is a dependent territory of New Zealand. It was annexed by Britain in 1916 as part of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands Colony and placed under New Zealand administration in 1926, becoming part of New Zealand in 1949. Referendums in 2006 and 2007 narrowly failed to reach the majority needed for self-government in free association.
