Tokushima Prefecture

Tokushima Prefecture is a prefecture of Japan in the east of Shikoku, corresponding to the former province of Awa, with its capital at Tokushima. It was created in 1871 when the Tokushima domain of the Hachisuka family was abolished, and after a period of merger with neighbouring prefectures in the 1870s it took its present form in 1880. It is known for the Naruto whirlpools and the Awa Odori festival.
