Tortona

Tortona is a town on the Scrivia in Piedmont, north-western Italy, the Roman Dertona. Frederick Barbarossa destroyed it in 1155 after a siege. For centuries it belonged to the Duchy of Milan, and after the War of the Polish Succession it passed with Novara to the house of Savoy in 1738.
