Treaty of Big Tree

1797 · 18th century

The Treaty of Big Tree was signed in 1797 at Geneseo, New York, between the Seneca and the financier Robert Morris. The Seneca sold their rights to most of their land west of the Genesee River for 100,000 dollars, keeping only a number of reservations. The sale opened western New York to settlement through the Holland Land Company.
