Treaty of Thaba Bosiu
The Treaty of Thaba Bosiu was signed in April 1866 between Moshoeshoe I of the Basotho and the Orange Free State, ending the war of 1865–1866. Moshoeshoe ceded much of the fertile land west of the Caledon River to the Free State, but fighting resumed in 1867, and Moshoeshoe's appeal for British protection led to the annexation of Basutoland in 1868.
