Tributum
Tributum was a direct tax in ancient Rome. Originally a levy on Roman citizens to fund war, it was suspended for citizens in Italy after 167 BCE, and under the empire the term came to denote taxes on provincial land and persons. Accounts of the Roman Empire discuss it as part of the fiscal system that financed the army and imperial administration.
