Truso

8th–10th century · 8th century

Truso was a Viking Age trading settlement on the shore of Lake Drużno near Elbląg in northern Poland, active from the 8th to the 10th century. The traveller Wulfstan, whose voyage from Hedeby is recorded in the Old English Orosius, described sailing there around 890. Excavations at Janów Pomorski since 1982 have identified the site and found evidence of crafts, coins and long-distance trade.
