Teutonic Order
The Teutonic Order is a Catholic military order founded at Acre around 1190 during the Third Crusade. From the 1230s it conquered the pagan Prussians and built a state on the Baltic, absorbing the Livonian Brothers of the Sword in 1237 and taking Pomerelia in 1308. Its defeat by Poland and Lithuania at Grunwald in 1410 began its decline, and in 1525 its Prussian lands became the secular Duchy of Prussia.
