Acre
Acre is a port city on the coast of present-day northern Israel. In the era of the Crusades it was a major Crusader stronghold and trading centre, taken by Saladin in 1187 and recaptured during the Third Crusade, which made it central to the conflicts of the Ayyubid Empire. Its capture by the Mamluk Sultanate in 1291 ended the Crusader presence in the Levant.
