Tsushima Island
Tsushima is a mountainous island in the Korea Strait between Kyushu and the Korean peninsula, now part of Nagasaki Prefecture. Its rulers, the Sō clan, depended on trade with Korea and managed Japan's relations with the Joseon court, including the trading post at Busan. The island was raided by the Mongols in 1274 and attacked by Korea in 1419, and the Japanese navy destroyed the Russian fleet in the strait nearby in 1905.
