Nagasaki
Nagasaki is a port city on the island of Kyushu in south-western Japan. Under the Tokugawa Shogunate it was the only permitted point of contact with European traders, through the Dutch post at Dejima, and a centre of controlled Chinese trade. On 9 August 1945 it was struck by an atomic bomb, an event that helped bring about the surrender of the Empire of Japan.
