Two Ewalds
The two Ewalds, called Ewald the Black and Ewald the Fair, were English priests who went as missionaries to the Old Saxons around 695. According to Bede they were killed by Saxons who feared the conversion of their chieftain, and their bodies were thrown into the Rhine. They are venerated as saints and martyrs, especially in Cologne, where their relics lie.
