Uiju
Uiju is a town in North Pyongan Province, North Korea, on the Yalu River opposite the Chinese city of Dandong. For centuries it was Korea's main gateway to China, through which tribute missions and trade passed. During the Japanese invasion of 1592 King Seonjo took refuge there and appealed to the Ming for help, and its border position made it a target in the Manchu invasions of the seventeenth century.
