Institution
Uppsala University
Uppsala University was founded in 1477 by Archbishop Jakob Ulvsson with a papal bull of Sixtus IV and the support of the regent Sten Sture the Elder, making it the oldest university in the Nordic countries. It declined after the Reformation but was refounded in the 1590s and became the centre of Swedish learning, where Carl Linnaeus and Anders Celsius taught.
