Uwajima

Uwajima is a port city in Ehime Prefecture on the western coast of Shikoku, Japan, facing the Bungo Channel. Its castle, rebuilt by the Date family in the 1660s, is one of the few in Japan with an original keep. From 1614 to 1871 it was the seat of the Uwajima domain, ruled by a branch of the Date of Sendai, and it is known for pearl farming and bull-sumo.
