Vaital Deul

8th century · 8th century · Also known as Baitala Deula

The Vaital Deul is an 8th-century Hindu temple in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, dedicated to the goddess Chamunda. It is the finest example of the khakhara style, with a barrel-vaulted roof resembling the gopurams of southern India. Its carvings include fierce Tantric imagery, and it dates from the period of the Bhauma-Kara dynasty.
