Vale of Pickering
The Vale of Pickering is a low-lying plain in North Yorkshire, England, between the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Wolds, drained by the River Derwent. At the end of the last Ice Age it held a glacial lake, and its former wetlands preserve major prehistoric sites, among them the Mesolithic settlement of Star Carr and the long-occupied site at West Heslerton. It is a fertile farming region.
