Valentín Alsina

1802–1869 · 19th century

Valentín Alsina was an Argentine lawyer and politician, a leading figure of the State of Buenos Aires after its secession from the Argentine Confederation in 1852. As governor in 1852 and again from 1857 to 1859, he defended the province's control of its port revenues against Justo José de Urquiza. He resigned after Buenos Aires was defeated at Cepeda in 1859 and later served as a senator.
