Battle of Caseros

1852 · 19th century · Part of the Platine War

The Battle of Caseros was fought on 3 February 1852 near Buenos Aires between the army of Juan Manuel de Rosas and a coalition led by Justo José de Urquiza, governor of Entre Ríos, backed by Brazil and Uruguay. Urquiza's victory ended Rosas's long rule and sent him into exile in Britain, opening the way to the Argentine Constitution of 1853.
