Volta Redonda
Volta Redonda is an industrial city in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the Paraíba do Sul river. It grew around the steelworks of the National Steel Company, founded in 1941 under Getúlio Vargas's Estado Novo with American financing and in production from 1946. The plant was Latin America's first large integrated steel mill and a symbol of Brazilian industrialisation.
