Waitangi, Northland
Waitangi is a locality in the Bay of Islands in Northland, New Zealand, where the British Resident James Busby built his house in 1833–1834. There northern Māori chiefs signed the Declaration of the Independence of New Zealand in 1835, and on 6 February 1840 the Treaty of Waitangi was first signed in the grounds of Busby's house. The Waitangi Treaty Grounds are now a national historic site, and 6 February is New Zealand's national day.
