Wakayama

Wakayama is a city on the west coast of the Kii Peninsula in Japan, at the mouth of the Kinokawa river, and the capital of Wakayama Prefecture. Toyotomi Hideyoshi had a castle built there in 1585, and from 1619 it was the seat of the Kii branch of the Tokugawa, one of the three senior collateral houses. The castle, destroyed in 1945, was rebuilt in concrete in 1958.
