Wilfrid Malleson

1866–1946 · 20th century

Wilfrid Malleson was a British Indian Army general who in 1918 led a military mission from Meshed in north-eastern Persia to support the anti-Bolshevik Transcaspian Government. His small force of Indian and British troops fought Red Army units along the Trans-Caspian railway, including at Dushak, before withdrawing in 1919. Soviet writers later blamed his mission for the execution of the Baku commissars.
