Merv
Merv was a great oasis city of Central Asia, in present-day Turkmenistan, on the Silk Road. The last Sasanian king, Yazdegerd III, was killed near Merv in 651 while fleeing the Arab conquest. The Seljuks captured Merv in 1037, and it later became one of the main cities of the Seljuk Empire.
