Wiligelmo

fl. c. 1099–1120 · 12th century · Also known as Guglielmo da Modena

Wiligelmo was a sculptor who carved the reliefs on the façade of Modena Cathedral in the early 12th century, including scenes from Genesis. An inscription praises him as worthy of honour among sculptors. His heavy, expressive figures marked a revival of monumental stone sculpture in Italy and influenced Romanesque workshops across northern Italy.
