Wu Qi

c. 440–381 BCE · 5th century BCE

Wu Qi was a general and reformer of the Warring States period, born in the State of Wey. He commanded the armies of Wei under Marquis Wen, winning the lands west of the Yellow River from Qin, and later served King Dao of Chu as chief minister, cutting the privileges of the nobility. After the king's death in 381 BCE nobles killed him beside the royal corpse. The military treatise Wuzi bears his name.
