Xipe Totec
Xipe Totec, 'Our Lord the Flayed One', was a Mesoamerican god of spring, agricultural renewal and goldsmiths, worshipped by the Aztecs and other peoples. In his festival of Tlacaxipehualiztli, priests wore the flayed skins of sacrificial victims, symbolising new growth bursting from the old husk. The Aztecs believed his cult came from the Yopes of the Pacific coast and called him the Yopi god.
