Xuantu Commandery

107 BCE · 2nd century BCE

Xuantu Commandery was a commandery set up by the Han dynasty of China in 107 BCE, after its conquest of Gojoseon, in the north of the Korean peninsula and southern Manchuria. Pressure from local peoples, above all the rising Goguryeo, forced it to move north-west towards Liaodong, and it survived in reduced form until the early 4th century. It was one of the Four Commanderies of Han.
