Yellow Turban Rebellion

184 CE · 2nd century

The Yellow Turban Rebellion was a large peasant uprising in China that began in 184 CE, led by the Taoist faith healer Zhang Jue and his brothers. Driven by millenarian expectations and agrarian distress, it spread across much of northern China. Although suppressed, it greatly strengthened regional warlords, and accounts of the Han Dynasty treat it as a major step towards the dynasty's collapse.
