Yury of Zvenigorod

1374–1434 · 15th century · Also known as Yury Dmitrievich

Yury of Zvenigorod was a son of Dmitry Donskoy and prince of Zvenigorod and Galich. When his brother Vasily I died in 1425, he claimed the throne of Moscow against his nephew Vasily II under the old rule of succession from brother to brother, opening a long civil war. He twice seized Moscow, in 1433 and 1434, and died there as grand prince in 1434.
