Yves d'Évreux

c. 1577–c. 1632 · 17th century

Yves d'Évreux was a French Capuchin friar who served in the colony of Equinoctial France on the island of Maranhão in Brazil from 1612. His account of the colony and of the Tupinambá continues that of Claude d'Abbeville, but its printing was suppressed in 1615 after France made peace with Spain, and it was only republished in 1864. It is a key source on the Tupinambá.
