Battle of Guaxenduba
The Battle of Guaxenduba was fought on 19 November 1614 on the coast of Maranhão in northern Brazil. A Portuguese force under Jerónimo de Albuquerque defeated the French colonists of Equinoctial France and their Tupinambá allies, although it was outnumbered. The defeat led the French commander Daniel de La Touche to surrender São Luís in 1615, ending the French colony.
