Zonians

Zonians were the American civilians who lived and worked in the Panama Canal Zone under United States administration from 1904 to 1979. Many were employees of the canal company and their families, living in subsidised company towns with their own schools, shops and police. Their privileged and segregated enclave was resented by Panamanians, and most left after the Torrijos–Carter Treaties ended the zone.
