Beja State

1500 CE – 1948 CE (approx.) · capital Beja

A tiny Rajput hill state near Kasauli, among the smallest of the Simla Hill States.

Origins

Tradition dates the ruling family to around 1500, but little is reliably known of its origins.

Rule and society

Beja consisted of a few villages in the hills south-west of Shimla. It was occupied by the Gurkhas in the early 19th century and restored under British protection after 1815. Its history is poorly recorded.

Decline and legacy

Beja merged into Himachal Pradesh in April 1948 and is now part of Solan district.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
