Dedan State

1700 CE – 1948 CE (approx.) · capital Dedan

A minor Kathi chiefship of southern Kathiawar, held by co-sharers of a local family.

Origins

Dedan was a small estate in southern Kathiawar held by a Kathi family from around 1700. Its founding is known mainly from local tradition.

Rule and society

Like many Kathi holdings, it was shared among members of the ruling family and supervised after 1807 by the British Kathiawar Agency. Little else is recorded.

Decline and legacy

Dedan merged into the United State of Saurashtra in 1948 and became part of Gujarat in 1960, in Amreli district.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
