Jetpur State

1760 CE – 1948 CE (approx.) · capital Jetpur

A Kathi state of central Saurashtra, held by branches of the Vala Kathi clan that also ruled Bilkha.

Origins

Jetpur came under the Vala branch of the Kathis, a pastoral warrior community that gave its name to Kathiawar, around 1760. The holding was divided among several shareholders of the same family.

Rule and society

The Kathi Darbars governed Jetpur and its villages under the Kathiawar Agency, with land shared between branches in a way typical of Kathi tenure. The state was minor, and little detail of its administration is recorded.

Decline and legacy

After accession to India Jetpur was merged into the United State of Saurashtra in 1948. The town, now in Rajkot district of Gujarat, is known for textile dyeing and printing.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
