Jobat State

1464 CE – 1948 CE (approx.) · capital Jobat

A small Rajput state in the Bhil country of western Madhya Pradesh, one of the minor states of the Bhopawar Agency.

Origins

Tradition dates the ruling family to the 15th century, but little is reliably known of its origins.

Rule and society

Jobat was a small, hilly state with a mainly Bhil population. It paid tribute to the Marathas and later came under the Bhopawar Agency of British central India. Its history is poorly recorded.

Decline and legacy

Jobat merged into Madhya Bharat in 1948, which became part of Madhya Pradesh in 1956. It is now in Alirajpur district.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
