Kingdom of Changshan
Origins
Zhang Er had been chancellor of the revived state of Zhao during the rebellion against the Qin dynasty. In 206 BCE Xiang Yu made him King of Changshan, ruling most of Zhao from Xiangguo (near Xingtai), while the Zhao king Zhao Xie was moved north to the Kingdom of Dai (206 BC).
Rule and society
The kingdom was dominated by the bitter quarrel between Zhang Er and Chen Yu, once sworn friends, who had fallen out during the siege of Julu. Chen Yu, given only a few counties, felt cheated by the settlement.
Decline and legacy
In 205 BCE Chen Yu, with troops from Tian Rong of Qi (206 BC), drove Zhang Er out; Zhang fled to Liu Bang, and Zhao Xie was restored as King of Zhao. After Han Xin defeated Zhao at Jingxing in 204 BCE, Liu Bang made Zhang Er King of Zhao.
