Kotharia State

1700 CE – 1948 CE (approx.) · capital Kotharia

A small Jadeja Rajput estate near Rajkot in Kathiawar, a cadet branch of the Rajkot ruling house.

Origins

Kotharia was held by a branch of the Jadeja Rajputs of Rajkot, who granted lands to younger sons as their share. The register dates its separate existence to around 1700.

Rule and society

The Thakor ruled a small group of villages and, after 1807, came under British supervision in the Kathiawar Agency as a minor non-salute state. Little else is recorded in standard references.

Decline and legacy

Kotharia merged into the United State of Saurashtra in 1948 and became part of Gujarat in 1960. It is now a suburb area of Rajkot.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
