Paloncha Samasthan

1700 CE – 1948 CE (approx.) · capital Paloncha

A Telugu samasthan in the forests of the Godavari valley, one of the hereditary estates under the Nizams of Hyderabad.

Origins

Paloncha was a hereditary estate in the forested country of the Godavari valley, near Bhadrachalam, held by a Telugu chiefly family. The register dates it to around 1700. Its founding is not well documented.

Rule and society

As a samasthan within Hyderabad State, Paloncha paid tribute to the Nizam while its Raja governed internally. The territory was heavily forested, with Koya and other tribal communities. Few further details are recorded in standard works.

Decline and legacy

With the integration of Hyderabad into India in 1948 and the abolition of samasthans, Paloncha ceased to exist. The town of Palvancha lies in Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
