Thanadevli State

1600 CE – 1948 CE (approx.) · capital Thanadevli

A minor Kathi chiefship of the Kathiawar peninsula, one of many small shareholder estates in the Sorath and Gohelwad country.

Origins

Thana Devli was one of the small Kathiawar holdings held by a Kathi family, the clan that gave the peninsula its name. It took shape as a separate estate by around 1600, though its early history is known mainly from local tradition.

Rule and society

Like many Kathi estates, it was held by co-sharers of the ruling family. It paid tribute to the Gaekwads of Baroda and to Junagadh, and after 1807 came under British supervision in the Kathiawar Agency. Little else is recorded.

Decline and legacy

The estate merged into the United State of Saurashtra in 1948 and became part of Gujarat in 1960.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
