1527 election in Cetin
The election in Cetin was the assembly of Croatian nobles held at Cetin Castle on 1 January 1527, after King Louis II died at Mohács. The nobles elected Ferdinand of Habsburg king of Croatia in return for promises of help against the Ottomans, beginning Habsburg rule over Croatia that lasted until 1918. Many Slavonian nobles chose his rival John Zápolya instead.
